  1. Found in Pennsylvania: an amber gallon jug with double loop handle and the bottom has an “M” inside a keystone. This was found on an exploration of vacant, rural land.

Enjoyed looking through your website (very informative!) but I am not seeing a maker’s mark description like this.

I researched Knox Glass, because they use a keystone, but didn’t see an M (Marienville perhaps?) and the double loop is a mystery as well, as it doesn’t seem to be their design.

    Any thoughts?

    1. Hi Amy,
Thank you for your comment and I am glad you found my site interesting!

The “M in a keystone” trademark was used by Metro Glass Bottle Company, Jersey City, New Jersey in the 1935 – 1949 time period. This is mentioned in this article on Knox (page 214):Knox Glass Bottle Company article – Bottle Research Group. Also, shown on the “M Logo Table” list here: M Logo Table, and on my alphabetical list of the M marks: Glass Bottle Marks, Page Four .

I should also mention that only a very small percentage of all the bottles and jar designs made by any particular glass company will be found illustrated online. Metro (as well as other glass manufacturers) made a wide variety of jugs of various designs – many of them were considered “stock” or “basic” container designs that were nearly the same in appearance from one glassmaker to another. If you haven’t already, I’d suggest doing keyword searches on the Worthpoint site (database of past ebay and other auction venues’ listings) and you may find listings of other similar jugs with the double handle. I hope this helps!
      Take care,
      David

  2. I’m trying to find information on a glass bottle that I bought. It has ” Ozonic Ltd” running vertically down one side, a marking of ” F C C ” on the base. I’m sure the mark is F C C. the bottle has an applied rim and a crackle/ scale? finish on the clear bottle. It is 7.5 inches tall and pretty heavy for its size. Any info would be appreciated, thank you.

    1. Hi Chris,
I tried contacting you directly using the email address you gave me, as I wanted to see pictures of that bottle before answering, but got a “Mailer Daemon” notice that the address you gave does not exist. Perhaps you had a typo in the email? Please try posting again, or contact me directly through my email listed on my “Contact Information” page.

      Thank you,
      David

  3. I am trying to find what the writing on the bottom of my jar is and who made it but it is difficult to read. Can you help?

    1. Hi Michelle,
Please check your email inbox (including spam/trash folders). I sent you a direct email as I would like to see the markings on the base.
      Best regards,
      David

  4. Jim, I am trying to find more about a broken glass bottle I found on the Delaware Shore at Woodland Beach. The bottle is thick, coloration of a tinted coke bottle. with the word in caps “SMITH &”, The rest of the name is broken away. Any help is welcome.

    1. Jim, I suspect you might have part of a bottle that was embossed “SMITH & KLINE”. Of course, since Smith is such a common surname, it is possible there were other firm combinations that had bottles made for them.

      Hope this helps!
      David
